This is a blog about my teaching, research and service with some occasional personal comments thrown in. These are my notes on a variety of topics. If you want to follow my blog posts on a specific topic, then see the Table of Contents in the right-hand column. While I try to work in the realm of facts, logic and moral absolutes, if there are any opinions expressed here, they are my own. -WilliamHartPhD

Description: "Ev Rogers was a leader in the development of the communication field. His early research focused on diffusion of innovations, opinion leaders, and the adoption of new ideas, concepts that framed much of his work throughout his career. He is remembered as a gifted teacher, a generous mentor, and a prolific scholar, with more than thirty books and hundreds of articles in publication at the time of his death in 2004. Importantly, Ev Rogers was a change agent, who sought to use scholarly research to advance policies and practices that improved peoples' lives. This documentary features rare footage taped just prior to his death, exploring his early life on an Iowa farm, professional choices, love of teaching and research, and ideas about diffusion. Writer/Producer: Glenda R. Balas, University of New Mexico; Videographer/Editor: Jason Balas, University of North Texas."

Description: "Aveline of Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation adopts the tools of the assassin's trade as a response to the turmoil in her surroundings, her backstory briefly detailed in a new trailer released today. As a child, she lost her mother. As a young adult, her father's wishes for her to have an easy life are dashed. Rather than stand idly by as the Revolution crumbles the world around her, Aveline dons the assassin's garb and seeks to tip the scales in favor of justice. "I will meet injustice in this world, and I will send you to the next," says Aveline in the trailer. "I am an assassin, and I fight for liberation." Aveline can don three separate and very different guises: that of a lady, a slave, or an assassin. Aveline retains the higher-class privileges of her French father's status; this combined with traits inherited from her African mother allow her to fluidly slip between social strata. As a slave dressed in peasant's clothing, Aveline can easily escape detection as most people will overlook her presence. She can also rile her fellow slaves to cause a public scene, although she cannot use her assassin weapons in this guise. In the clothes of an aristocrat, Aveline can access places that allow only members of high New Orleans society. Aveline can charm, bribe, and easily orchestrate opportunities for an assassination. As with her slave garb, she cannot use many of her assassin's weapons when tied into a corset, but she does possess certain modified items such as a poison dart-shooting umbrella. Aveline's assassin's costume is tailored for combat, allowing her to carry more weapons. But at the same time her garb will call more attention to her presence: guards will be more alert of her while she's wearing this outfit.
