New uses are being found for social media platforms everyday. This is not the first time a conflict has been broadcast on Twitter, as "Arab Spring" uprisings (beginning with Egypt) throughout the Middle East were broadcast by citizen journalists using social media. However, this is the first time that a government has declared war using the medium. Israel also seems to be posting images of targeted attacks online. Could they be attempting to influence public perception of this conflict.
The problem is that the more people begin to turn to such non mainstream sources for up-do-date inforamtion, they may not go to legitimate news sources for verification. think about how widespread a story can become before verification. certainly were things like world peace and war are concerned this is a dangerous precedent
As Twitter war rages, #stoptheterror Instagrams aim to wage peace
Just as Israel is using Twitter to document actions during their conflict with Hamas, peace activists are finding their own way to get their message out. Instagram has been used primarily as a niche site up to now, but this #stoptheterror campaign has given the site greater relevance in the world of social media.
This is a prime example of how the world of social media is used today. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are all good ways to raise awareness or to get information out that you want people to know. It's amazing how quick things can get around by using social networks.
